Development of an Ant Colony Optimization Algorithm to improve Maintenance Process Efficiency

    Get PDF
Efficient maintenance policies are of fundamental importance because of their fallbacks into the safety and economics of air traffic operations. Usually the optimization of maintenance process is limited to a resource optimization in position and number. But it should be considered that maintenance tasks are performed by man whose excessive workload has negative falls-out not only for workers well-being but also for process safety and efficiency. Thus, in maintenance process optimization it is necessary to take into account also ergonomic aspects of workplace. This gives rise to an optimization of the maintenance process by using an ergonomic approach. In this way, the result of the optimization could allow improvements in the quality of the work of maintenance, but also a greater efficiency of the whole maintenance system. An ant colony optimization algorithm has been developed in order to optimize the system efficiency. This kind of algorithm natively permits to improve man movements into the workplace; furthermore the optimization of the workplace ergonomics has been added. To do this, an objective function of efficiency levels has been determined, linked to any task performed by man. Some protocols have been created on the basis of a literature survey and experimental results. This paper illustrates an applied research in which a method for the optimization of the maintenance process efficiency has been developed in order to show the applicability of a tool offering benefits on both sides: the maintenance process and the related human factors

On azimuthal spin correlations in Higgs plus jet events at LHC

We consider the recent proposal that the distribution of the difference between azimuthal angles of the two accompanying jets in gluon-fusion induced Higgs-plus-two-jet events at LHC reflects the CP of the Higgs boson produced. We point out that the hierarchy between the Higgs boson mass and the jet transverse energy makes this observable vulnerable to logarithmically enhanced higher-order perturbative corrections. We present an evolution equation that describes the scale variation of the azimuthal angular correlation for the two jets. The emission of extra partons leads to a significant suppression of the correlation. Using the HERWIG Monte Carlo event generator, we carry out a parton-shower analysis to confirm the findings.Comment: Published version. 11 pages, 4 figures, uses JHEP3.cl

Kinematical Limits on Higgs Boson Production via Gluon Fusion in Association with Jets

In this paper, we analyze the high-energy limits for Higgs boson plus two jet production. We consider two high-energy limits, corresponding to two different kinematic regions: a) the Higgs boson is centrally located in rapidity between the two jets, and very far from either jet; b) the Higgs boson is close to one jet in rapidity, and both of these are very far from the other jet. In both cases the amplitudes factorize into impact factors or coefficient functions connected by gluons exchanged in the t channel. Accordingly, we compute the coefficient function for the production of a Higgs boson from two off-shell gluons, and the impact factors for the production of a Higgs boson in association with a gluon or a quark jet. We include the full top quark mass dependence and compare this with the result obtained in the large top-mass limit.Comment: 35 pages, 6 figure

A compact representation of the 2 photon 3 gluon amplitude

A compact representation of the loop amplitude gamma gamma ggg -> 0 is presented. The result has been obtained by using helicity methods and sorting with respect to an irreducible function basis. We show how to convert spinor representations into a field strength representation of the amplitude. The amplitude defines a background contribution for Higgs boson searches at the LHC in the channel H -> gamma gamma + jet which was earlier extracted indirectly from the one-loop representation of the 5-gluon amplitude.Comment: 15 pages Latex, 6 eps files included, revised versio

Soft gluons in Higgs plus two jet production

We investigate the effects of an all order QCD resummation of soft gluon emissions for Higgs boson production in association with two hard jets. We consider both the gluon-gluon fusion and weak boson fusion processes and show how to resum a large part of the leading logarithms in the jet veto scale. Our resummation improves on previous analyses which also aim to include the effects of multiple soft gluon radiation. In addition we calculate the interference between weak boson fusion and gluon-gluon fusion and find that it is small.Comment: 15 pages and 5 figure
